Support & FAQ
The Understood In apps for iPhone and Android — today, Understood In Spanish. Every app in the family works the same way.
Is Understood In Spanish really free?
Yes. All 280 lessons from A1 to C2, the graded stories, conversations, Smart Review, Daily Workout, flashcards, quizzes and the Conjugation Gym are free, with no hearts, energy or daily limits. The free version shows ads between lessons — never inside one. Understood In Pro ($0.99 a month or $5.99 a year) removes the ads. That is the only difference.
Does it work offline?
Yes. The entire course, all audio, and your progress live on your device. You can complete lessons, speak, read stories and review with no connection at all. Only ads (free version) and store purchases need the internet.
How does the speaking practice work?
Each lesson has a speaking exercise. Tap Tap & speak, say the sentence, and your phone's speech recognition compares what it heard with the target — you see the recognised text either way. Speaking exercises are always optional: Skip speaking leaves them out of your score, and if you decline the microphone permission the app skips them automatically. Nothing is recorded or stored (see the privacy policy).
Can I learn in a language other than English?
Yes. Lessons, hints and glosses are explained in the language you choose — 33 languages, including Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Thai, Arabic and Hebrew. Change it any time in Settings → I speak. The Spanish you learn is identical in every language. Translations other than English are machine-generated, and the course itself was written by AI and reviewed for accuracy.
My answer was right but marked wrong. What counts as correct?
Typed answers ignore capitalisation and punctuation, and an answer typed without accents is accepted with a gentle “watch the accents” note. Most exercises accept several phrasings, but not every synonym. If you are sure a correct answer was rejected, tell us the lesson and the exact sentence through the contact form below — we fix content in the next release.
How do I back up or move my progress to a new phone?
Your progress is stored only on your device, so back it up yourself: Settings → Backup & transfer → Export progress saves a single file (lessons, streaks, review schedule, custom cards and quizzes). On the new phone, Import progress merges it in — it never deletes anything. Your normal iCloud or Google device backup usually includes the app's data as well.
How do I remove ads, restore Pro, or cancel?
Open Profile → Go Pro to subscribe. If you reinstall or change phones, use Settings → Restore purchases. Cancel any time in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings; ads return when the current period ends, and nothing else changes.
Why is a lesson marked with a lock?
The lock only means the previous lesson isn't finished yet. Tap it anyway and choose Jump in anyway — nothing in the course is ever locked for real.
Can I reset my progress?
Settings → Reset progress wipes lessons, streaks and your review deck. Custom flashcards and quizzes you created are kept. This cannot be undone, so export first if you might want it back.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad on iOS 17 or later, and Android phones and tablets on Android 8.0 or later.
Tell us the lesson name and what happened — a screenshot helps. We read everything.
